Chapter 3: Install AVD (Android Virtual Device)

Installing Android Virtual Device:

Android virtual device or emulator is in simple words, just a smartphone simulation on your computer.

In this tutorial we will learn how to install AVD or emulator to run or test Android apps which we coded. We use this for our self satisfaction. You can also run your coded app on you Android mobile devices, we will discuss that is later lessons.

Installing an emulator:

Step 1:
  • First of all open your Android Studio and if opened, click on the AVD Manager icon.

Step 2:




  • Virtual devices pop up dialog appears, just click on Create Virtual Device button.
Step 3:

  • Select Hardware in the sense select any device from the list, I suggest you to select Nexus One.
Step 4:


  • Hit next button then, Select System image means API for ex Marshmallow, lollipop etc.
Step 5:



  • Hit next and then hit finish button 
  • Your Virtual Devices dialog appears and it shows your device.
  • Hit play button to run the Virtual Device.
